Welcome to Good Mourning!

Welcome to Good Mourning!

The moment has finally arrived! My labor of love has “opened its doors,” so to speak.

I feel humbled and privileged to have you here with me. Good Mourning is a unique space –– it is a community of sharing and remembering the souls who have impacted our lives. In this age of technology, why should we not have a digital space dedicated to the people who have had a profound effect on who we are? The time is NOW…

As we launch, it’s important to remember the journey leading up to this moment. The story began years before I even knew I would build this website. It was always my gift to the people I loved to create something special for their funeral –– whether a printed card, a service sheet, or a slideshow. In the moments of grief and despair, CREATION was my solace and my way of feeling useful.  I wanted my special people to be celebrated in a way that reflected who they were in all their glory and uniqueness.

After the passings of dear family members and close friends, this idea brewed to the surface and I felt compelled to build it. I am so very appreciative for my family and friends who have been rooting me on and patiently supporting me for all this time. And also, a huge debt of gratitude to my team who took a leap of faith in the concept.

As this is the first blog post, I’d like to tell you what you might expect from the Good Mourning blog:

  • Stories and remembrances for a candid expression of grief.
  • Tips on dealing with the aftermath of loss, such as how to write a memorable obituary, how to keep your mind and body feeling healthy, and the best resources for coping with death.
  • How-to instructions for the Good Mourning site, such as how to design a memorial card or how to build a slideshow using your photos and photos from others.
  • Different Perspectives. As grief is a shared experience but uniquely expressed, it’s important to have an assortment of writers and varied perspectives.
  • Creative ideas on how to remember a loved one year after year, in a notable way.

I encourage you to browse the website. As you might see, we are rethinking and modernizing the way we memorialize those we have loved and lost. I want you to be able to customize the way you remember your family member or best friend. Why should it be any other way? Add photos of your loved one, tell stories, create a personalized memorial card, send links to friends and family… there are so many ways to make it your own.

For me, the way an experience feels is also really important, it’s not just about the end-product. Whether we are mourning or celebrating the life of a loved one, the process of creating a memorial should be as beautiful as the life it represents. As we built the website, I wanted to be sure the space reflected that ideal. I hope you can feel the difference.

Good Mourning currently offers three tools to remember your loved one:

  1. Customizable printed memorial cards. All our cards are designed with love in mind. We make it easy for you to personalize and get them printed and shipped quickly.
  2. A slideshow builder tool to share at events and on social media. A picture tells a thousand words –– let the images speak for you when it’s hard to find the words.
  3. A shareable Memory Wall where friends and family can post favorite photos and memories. This is our take on the classic obituary. But the difference is, ours won’t cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars, and you can customize it and share it via email and social media.

Celebrating lost loved ones shouldn’t have to break the bank. All aspects are free aside from the printed cards.

Again, I welcome you to the site. I hope that it proves to be a useful resource for you in moments of grief, and moments of remembrance. Everyday is a good day to think about the people who have captured the corners of your heart. May the beautiful memories live on!

Until next time…

Thank you
